It's long been suspected that the New York Yankees were looking to move veteran backstop Brian McCann. That's not necessarily a tremendous surprise considering the presence of youngster Gary Sanchez at catcher.
New York was ultimately able to move McCann to the Houston Astros Thursday evening in exchange for prospects Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman.
McCann, 32, will immediately be penciled in as the Astros starting catcher with Evan Gattis and him also splitting time at designated hitter.
The former All-Star hit just .242 with a .335 on-base percentage this past season. Though, he was still able to hit 20 homers and drive in 58 runs.
This seems to be a decent fit for McCann, who is hittin .304 with a .378 on-base percentage at Minute Maid Field during his long career. He remains a viable DFS option and a rosterable commodity in year-long contests.
