Even after their season-opening win over the defending champions Chicago Cubs, the St. Louis Cardinals appear to be continuing with ther off-season team-building strategy.
After signing both Carlos Martinez and Yadier Molina to extensions prior to the season, the team has locked up young outfielder Stephen Piscotty to a six-year contract worth $33.5 million guaranteed.
The 26-year-old outfielder had a breakout 2016 campaign, putting up 26 homers, 85 RBI and a tremendous 60 extra-base hits. It was his first season as a full-time starter for the Cardinals.
A .295 hitter with a .323 BABip at home last season, Piscotty's fantasy relevance has now increased with knowledge that he will be playing half his games at Busch Stadium for at least the next six seasons. Also important to note, he split at .252/.315 on the road in 2016, meaning that the youngster is viable even when the Cardinals are not playing at he friendly confines.
