The San Francisco Giants pulled off a last-minute blockbuster trade, acquiring pitcher Matt Moore from the Tampa Bay Rays for a package of players including last year's Rookie of the Year runner up Matt Duffy.
There's a lot to this trade from both sides. First off, Moore gives the Giants that capable fourth starter to fit in behind Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija.
Secondly, the Rays get a tremendous young infielder in Duffy who hit .295 with 12 homers and 77 RBI as a rookie last year. While the 25-year-old infielder has struggled to an extent this season, he's more than capable of being an All-Star caliber performer for Tampa Bay moving forward.
As it relates to Moore, the former All-Star is also in the midst of a down season. He's posted a 7-7 record with a 4.08 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 21 starts.
The interesting dynamic here is that Moore has performed much better at home than on the road this season, posting a 3.46 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP at Tropicana compared to a 4.94/1.50 split away from Tampa. He is, however, heading to a pitcher-friendly ballpark in a pitcher-friendly National League West. That should help with his splits moving forward.
Though, with Moore's relatively low strikeout rate (7.5 per nine innings this season), he's not going to be a top-end DFS option for the Giants moving forward.
On the other hand, Duffy should excel in a more hitter-friendly stadium and league. He boasts a career .292 average with a .337 BAbip away from AT&T Park. Look for his fantasy production to increase a great deal here.
