Oakland Athletics first baseman Yonder Alonso had just missed the past few games with a minor injury. He returned to action Tuesday against the Miami Marlins, promptly hitting his 13th homer of the season.
Unfortunately for both Alonso and the A's, he had to exit later in the game after being hit in the wrist. Along initially took to first base, but was removed from the game in the top of the next innings.
The surprising veteran is now likely headed to both an X-ray and an MRI on the injured wrist.
Thus far this season, Alonso is hitting .275 with 13 homers and 30 RBI. This comes on the heels of him hitting a combined 12 homers in his previous two seasons. Prior to 2017, Alonso had never finished with double-digit homers since entering the Majors with the Cincinnati Reds back in 2010.
