Houston Astros All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa suffered a thumb injury in Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Originally diagnosed as a jammed thumb, Correa was pulled from the game. Unfortunately for MLB's best team, that's not the case. Houston announced n Tuesday that Correa suffered a torn thumb ligament and will miss the next six-to-eight weeks.
This pushes a potential return to the diamond until September.
And while the Astros are sitting pretty with the best record in the game, fantasy owners can't be too happy about this news. Correa, 22, is hitting .320 with 20 homers, 67 RBI and a .400 on-base percentage. He's been among the best fantasy players at this position over the past two years.
With Correa out of action for up to two months, Marwin Gonzalez will likely take over at short on an every-day basis. Gonzalez himself is hitting .311 with 17 homers and 55 RBI.
