Out since mid April with a right calf strain, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson will begin his rehab assignment on Monday in Single-A.
Despite rehabbing at a low-level, Donaldson is expected to be back within a few days. Surely, that's dependent on him not aggravating an injury that has dogged him since spring training.
Toronto could use Donaldson's presence in the lineup. It enters Monday's action with a 19-26 record and in last place in the AL East.
Donaldson was off to a solid start to the season before the injury, posting a .310 average with two homers and four RBI in nine games. That came on the heels of him averaging 39 homers and 111 RBI in his first two seasons up north. Needless to say, he remains an elite-level fantasy option at the hot corner.
