The New York Mets will be without starting pitcher Seth Lugo for an undetermined time after it was reported Tuesday that the second-year player has a partial tear of the UCL.
The good news here is that Lego likely won't have to undergo Tommy John Surgery. Instead, he'll have to rest for the foreseeable future. There's also a chance there that the Mets actually opt for surgery, which could be seen as an eventuality down the road.
Lugo, 27, put up a tremendous first season in the Majors with the Mets last season. He pitched to a 2.67 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP in 17 games (eight starts).
With fellow starter Steven Matz likely out for the next three weeks, this puts the Mets in a precarious early-season position. It's not yet known who will take Lugo's turn in the rotation.
