As teams get closer and closer to opening day, they are simply hoping they can get through the final days without any injuries to their starters. The Chicago Cubs had a bit of a scare this week when ace Jake Arrieta had to leave his start early after getting a blister on his right thumb. But after a bullpen session on Sunday, he has been cleared by the team.
Arrieta will take the hill on opening day against the Los Angeles Angels. The reigning National League Cy Young award winner will carry a lot of weight this season as the ace of the World Series favorite. In 2015, Arrieta posted a career-best 1.77 ERA, 0.86 WHIP with 236 strikeouts and jsut 48 walks over 229 innings.
A top-five pitcher in baseball, Arrieta may not win the Cy Young again, but he will post ace numbers and be a stud for fantasy owners.
