Fresh off a 4-of-5 performance that saw him finish a homer short of a cyle while collecting four runs scored, one RBI and another steal, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is having himself one of those absurd seasons you only see every once in a while.
Through Wednesday's amazing performance against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, Altuve is hitting .357 on the season with 13 homers, 46 RBI, 21 steals, 60 runs scored and 23 doubles. If he were to stay at this pace, Altuve would find himself finish with career-high numbers across the board. In fact, he's currently on pace to hit 27 homers while driving in 94 runs, stealing 44 bases and scoring 125 runs.
As of Thursday morning, Altuve has posted a .432 on-base percentage and a .812 OPS.
Needless to say, these numbers have the MVP candidate as the top fantasy middle infielder in all of baseball. Coming from a player that had never hit more than seven homers or driven in as much as 60 runs in a season, this is absolutely absurd.
When looking at who Altuve and the Astros are facing in the not-so-distant future, there's no reason to believe he won't be able to continue this utter domination.
There aren't many pitchers on this list that would force us to avoid starting Altuve in DFS contests, no matter his price. Sale would obviously be an outlier, but the Astros infielder has posted a 6-of-18 mark with a .389 on-base percentage against Sale in his career.
The only pitcher here to really avoid Altuve against would be Quintana, who is holding him to a 3-of-20 mark with seven strikeouts. Outside of that, happy DFS playing ladies and gents.
