Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez Headed to Disabled List, Cody Bellinger to Start

Everyone has a plan in place until something else happens. The Los Angeles Dodgers plan was to just keep top prospect Cody Bellinger up for a short amount of time, then send him back when Franklin Gutierrez and Joc Pederson came off the disabled list. Now with Gutierrez back and Pederson on his way to Los Angeles, the Dodgers found a way to keep Bellinger in the lineup.

Adrian Gonzalez, who had never been on the disabled list in his entire 14-year career until today, is headed to the 10-day disabled list. While the team tried to keep him off for several days, they ultimately decided a herniated disk in his back and forearm stiffness was finally too much to keep throwing him out on the field.

It's the smart move to make. The 34-year-old first baseman has been bad this season with a .255/.327/.309 and a .636 OPS. Meanwhile, the young Bellinger is 10-for-33 since his call up and has two home runs, one triple, one double and plays excellent defense at first base. Ultimately, Los Angeles is a much better team with Bellinger in its lineup than when they put Gonzalez out there.

We still don't know how long Gonzalez will be on the disabled list, but this should be one that the Dodgers take their time with. With multiple ailments and a talented player at first base, Los Angeles can give Gonzalez all the time he needs to fully recover until he is 100 percent healthy. When that time comes, then they can see where Gonzalez's abilities are at and see if they can move Bellinger to the outfield and have Gonzalez back at first base.

Bellinger should already be owned in every fantasy league, but rush to grab him now if he is somehow available.
