MLB teams look at the final days leading up to the regular season as a chance to get in some final at bats and most importantly, be healthy going into the start of the season. Unfortunately for the Seattle Mariners, the team took a tough hit on Friday when Seattle announced Drew Smyly would miss the next six-to-eight weeks with a flexor strain in his left arm.

The injury apparently arose during a pitching session and Smyly alerted the trainers. MRI results yielded results no one wanted to see. To make matters worse, flexor strains are often a grim connection to issues with the UCL. As a result, Seattle will need to play things even more cautiously with Smyly.

With Smyly out of the picture, 28-year-old Ariel Miranda gets bumped up to the majors and slides into the rotation. The Cuban lefty impressed in his MLB debut last season, making 10 starts and 12 appearances with a 3.88 ERA. But there are reasons to be concerned as well. Miranda's low 6.43 K/9 and 1.93 HR/9 raise issues over his inability to miss bats at a consistent level.

He will see enough starts to be worthy of owning in AL-only leagues and 20-team leagues, but a four-plus ERA and low strikeout rate keep him from standard league fantasy relevance.
