The first trade of the MLB offseason went down Thursday night when the Seattle Mariners traded infielder/outfielder Brad Miller, infielder Logan Morrison and reliever Danny Farquhar to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for pitchers Nate Karns and C.J. Riefenhauser as well as minor league outfielder Boog Powell.
Making his first move as the Mariners general manager, Jerry Dipoto picked up a live arm in the 27-year-old Karns, who put up a 7-5 record with a 3.67 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 27 games (26 starts) for the Rays last season. With Hisashi Iwakuma set to become a free agent, it's a move that makes a ton of sense for the new Mariners GM.
Miller is the headliner heading to Tampa Bay in the deal. He's long been considered one of the Mariners top prospects, but just hasn't been able to perform at a high level in the Majors. The 26-year-old infielder hit .258 with 11 homers and 46 RBI's last season.
