While the Miami Marlins are in the midst of another down season that will lead them to become sellers come July, they'll gladly welcome back third baseman Martin Prado on Friday. Prado, who the team placed on the disabled list in early May with a strained hamstring, was activated off the disabled list today and will return to the lineup immediately.
Prado, 33, missed Miami's first 12 games of the season with the same hamstring strain. When he returned, the Marlins tried to play it cautiously with their third baseman. He managed to play in 17 games before the hamstring tightened up again. Miami opted to play it slowly with Prado's return and made sure his hamstring was 100 percent and cleared for all movements and activities, to avoid further setbacks.
So far this season, Prado posted a .290/.315/.406 slash line in 69 at bats with a .721 OPS, two home runs and six RBIs. With an open roster spot, Miami called up infielder J.T. Riddle when Prado was sidelined. Given Riddle's struggles at the plate with a .279 wOBA and 63 wRC+, he will be limited to a bench role going forward for the Marlins.
