It didn't take former Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly much time to land a new job as a manager in MLB. Just a week after mutually parting ways with the Dodgers, Mattingly has a new job.
He will reported be hired by the Miami Marlins in the same capacity — a team that struggled to a 71-91 record this past regular season.
Mattingly will replace general manager Dan Jennings, who took over for Mike Redmon mid-season, on the bench in Miami. He will do so with a talented young team that seemed like it was ready to compete for a playoff spot before going through some pretty big growing pains in 2015.
Mattingly parted ways with the Dodgers after a third consecutive NL West title and third straight premature departure from the postseason. In five years with Los Angeles, the former New York Yankees star posted a .551 winning percentage, earning a playoff spot each season.
He should bring a sense of calm to a young team in need of consistency moving forward. That's likely one of the primary reasons Miami chose him for the job.
