MLB Early Season Overreactions

MLB Early Season Overreactions

We as human beings are emotional.  We as baseball fans are emotional about baseball.  Because of these emotions, we as baseball fans overreact about every little thing, even when it is only a few days into the season.  No fan base is immune, but some are louder than others.  It isn’t always negative either, as our emotions can be too high as well as too low.

Jim Johnson Will Not Save A Game

This overreaction is what Oakland Athletics are screaming about on twitter after a loss in a tie game in the first game of the season and a blown save in the third game of the season.  After three games of the season the Athletics have given up eight runs, five of those runs were given up by Johnson.  They obviously have reason to be upset but it's only three games and this is still a guy who has saved 101 games over the last two seasons.  Athletics fans can back away from the ledge because he is a veteran and he will get it together, eventually.

The Pirates Will Walk Off For Every Win

Three games into the season and the Pittsburgh Pirates are 2-1 with two walk-offs. Two walk-offs in three games they are on pace to win 108 games, all via the walk-off.  That would shatter the current record of 13, but theres no way the Pirates are winning 108 games, but 96 is completely realistic right?

The Los Angeles Angels Will Go 0-162

Once again the Angels are off to a slow start and again Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton are off to a slow start.  Again, Mike Trout is still Trout, but it takes more than one amazing player to win games.  That's why the Angels will lose 162 games setting a record that may never be matched. That can't really happen because they will eventually beat the Astros, right? Even if the Angels fans have to live through another season without the playoffs at least they have Trout till 2020.

Billy Hamilton Will Not Steal A Base This Season

Nearly everyone in baseball was excited for a full season of Hamilton, but so far it's been about as exciting as watching paint dry.  He has started off the season 0-12 with only one walk and the most telling stat, zero stolen bases.  You cannot steal bases if you cannot get on base and if he cannot get on base he might end up back in AAA.  Don't worry though Cincinnati fans,  Hamilton will come around, and when he does there will be no stopping his speed.
