MLB Managers on the Hot Seat

MLB Managers on the Hot Seat

How great would it be to get the opportunity to be a Major League Baseball manager? From the outside looking in it seems like it would be the greatest job ever. What could go wrong, right? You get to watch baseball every single day and get paid for it! Unfortunately that is only one side of the spectrum. On the other hand you are being nitpicked over every single move that you make, during every single game. From the fans, to the owners, there is always someone unhappy with your progress.

This brings me to the main point of this article. The three words that no one wants to hear, whether you’re a janitor or manager. You are fired. In the next four months of the season, a manager is bound to get fired. Sometimes, it is expected but at other times, comes out of nowhere. So, who is currently on the hot seat?

Mike Scioscia is easily the favorite to be fired. He is on not only the hot seat but the flaming hot seat! This team has been stacking players and dropping cash for a few years now. The result? No playoff appearances. Well, they just got Josh Hamilton you might be telling yourself. Yeah, they did get Hamilton. The guy who is batting .208 with only two home runs and a glaring 38 strikeouts. This Los Angeles Angels team currently sits at an 11-20 mark. This has to be the last straw for the Angels organization and if they don’t make the playoffs this year, it is all but goodbye for Scioscia.

Next, is a team with much lower expectations, the Minnesota Twins. Ron Gardenhire, the current coach of the Twins and the 2010 AL Coach of the Year, is definitely on the hot seat. Things just haven’t been the same for this team since, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau were both injured. Mauer has been swinging the bat horrible of late and if things stay how they are Gardenhire is going to be seeking new employment in 2014.

For now most teams are happy with the coaching job that their teams have produced. Since it is only the beginning of May, there is still a lot of time to decide who is going and who is staying. For now all we can do is watch and hope the team you cheer for is performing well. Til next time.
