Reigning National League Cy Young winner Max Scherzer has been pulled from the World Baseball Classic after being diagnosed with a fracture att he knuckle of his right Index finger (throwing hand).
It isn't huge news and Scherzer is expected to be back in time for Spring Training. It is, however, something to monitor as we get closer to the spring. By not participating in the WBC, Scherzer simply doesn't want to take a risk. If he's somehow slow to get involved in the spring, that changes everything.
Scherzer, 32, posted a 20-7 record with a 2.96 ERA and a NL-leading 284 strikeouts last season
