While the Philadelphia Phillies wait A.J. Ellis, who they acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, to return, the team has called up top catching prospect Jorge Alfaro from Double-A Reading on Friday. Alfaro entered the season rated as  Top-100 prospect by MLB.com and Baseball America and a top-five prospect in the deep Phillies' farm system.

This season in Double-A, the 23-year-old, right-handed hitter has handled himself very well at the plate. In 373 at bats, Alfaro has a .279 batting average, .342 weighted on-base average, 13 home runs and a .763 OPS. While this will be a short-term stay for Alfaro, as Ellis should arrive in Philadelphia very soon, Alfaro's trip back to the minors should be very short as well given roster expansion is just a few days away on September 1.

From a fantasy perspective, Alfaro should be avoided for now. He won't see every day playing time and even if he received a major chunk of at bats, the jump from two levels will prove to be a major adjustment and one that will take time before Alfaro starts producing at a regular, MLB-caliber level.
