With the Philadelphia Phillies for nearly the past two decades, Carlos Ruiz will now be donning the Dodger blue for the remainder of the season. The veteran catcher was traded from Philadelphia to Los Angeles on Thursday in exchange for fellow catcher A.J. Ellis and infield prospect Tommy Bergjans.
Ruiz, a former All-Star, has fallen on difficult times recently. A part-time player in recent seasons with the Phillies, Ruiz is hitting just .261 with three homers and 12 RBI.
On the other hand, Ellis is two years younger and coud act as a decent long-term backup option for Philadelphia. Though, he's hitting just .194 on the year.
It's a minor August deal. But any time proven backstops are moved for one another, the impact is real. Both Ruiz and Ellis have proven capable of handling pitching staffs, which could have a fantasy impact moving forward on the season.
