The Boston Red Sox received some good news on Monday after former MVP Dustin Pedroia was examined at a hospital. Pedroia left Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with an injury to his ankle and knee after a hard slide by Orioles third baseman Manny Machado. He did not return to action and missed both games over the weekend.
The play in question led to a near brawl after Machado was thrown at by Sox reliever Matt Barnes on Sunday.
The good news here is that Pedroia is now considered day-to-day and should return here relatively soon. That's probably the best outcome Boston could have hoped for after he exited Friday.
Pedroia, 33, is hitting just .258 with zero homers and five RBI on the season.
