The Houston Astros have started to turn their season around after an unexpected slow start and now as they start to heat up at the same time as prospect A.J. Reed, the team has brought up Reed to make his MLB debut. The news was first reported by 1250 Sports Talk, then confirmed by Astros' beat writer Jake Kaplan, though he added the move won't be announced officially until after the game.
Reed entered the season rated as the Astros second-best prospect by MLB.com and the 25th overall prospect in baseball. The 23-year-old first baseman has put up respectable numbers for the position this season with a .266/.345/.509 triple-slash line, 19 2B's, 11 HR's and 36 RBI's, but has especially hot as of late. Over his past 10 games, Reed is 16-for-14 (.372) with three home runs, seven RBI's and six runs scored.
It's expected that Reed should see significant playing time right away at first base, with most of his starts coming against right-handed pitchers as he owns just a .222 batting average versus left-handed pitchers this season. If Reed is available in your fantasy league, run to pick him up. With a lineup that has Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and George Springer, Reed will have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs and he has mammoth power that he will put on display.
