This year's first base free agent class is a pretty weak class outside of slugger Chris Davis. Many of the players in this free agent class are up in age, or are journeymen guys who are best suited for a bench role.
This is a veteran dominant free agent class, and it has it’s share of guys with postseason experience which could come in handy for young teams that are making the turn towards playoff contenders. Veteran leadership is always handy, and even if guys like Justin Morneau, Mark Reynolds and Mike Napoli are shells of their former selves, they have ample amounts of knowledge that they can spread with their younger teammates.
Chris Davis is going to be a highly coveted player with his monster power. Left handed hitters are always a hot commodity, and Davis should be able to sign a monster deal considering he is averaging 40 homeruns a year over the last four years. At 30 years old, Davis is still young enough to sign a relatively long term deal of five or maybe six years.
The overall talent level here is not very strong but a few of these guys, on the right team still have some value whether it’s providing a bat off the bench or veteran leadership.
