Shortly after firing Matt Williams following a disappointing 83-79 season, the Washington Nationals are apparently bringing in veteran manager Dusty Baker to help lead this talented squad back into contention in the National League East.
This comes on the heels of reports that Washington offered Bud Black a lowly one-year, $1.6 million contract to take over the team's managerial position. That offer forced the Nationals to move on from their first choice and consider Bake for the opening.
Baker, 66, last managed in MLB with the Cincinnati Reds back in 2013. He spent six seasons with the team, earning three trips to the postseason in the process. Baker, who played 19 yards in the Majors, was most successful during his 10-year stint as the San Francisco Giants manager from 1993-2002, leading the team to seven winning seasons and an NL Pennant in 2002.
