Mets at Rockies

There has been plenty of scoring through two games at Coors Field, but the rubber match promises to be a pitcher’s duel. The Colorado Rockies will send ageless left-hander Jamie Moyer out Sunday to square off with New York Mets ace Johan Santana. Each pitcher will be facing an offense that has been thrived in the thin air of Denver. After combining for 36 hits in an 18-9 Rockies win in the series opener, the Mets answered with 13 hits in a 7-5 triumph Saturday.

New York has won four of its last five games but is just now finding it rhythm at the plate. Lucas Duda played the hero with a homer and four RBIs on Saturday but Ruben Tejada is 7-for-11 in the two games and David Wright lifted his average to .385 with a three-hit night Saturday. Colorado dropped Dexter Fowler to the No. 8 spot in the order before the series and has been rewarded with a home run in each of the last two contests.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Johan Santana (0-2, 3.00 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Jamie Moyer (1-2, 2.28 ERA)

Santana has yet to earn a win despite allowing one or no runs in three of his first four starts. The former Cy Young Award winner turned in his best effort last time out, allowing one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out 11 against Miami. Santana is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 16 career innings against Colorado.

Moyer, 49, became the oldest pitcher ever to win a game on April 17 and followed it up with a six-inning, one-run effort in a no decision at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He has struggled in his career against Wright, who is 22-for -53 (.415) with four homers off Moyer.
