Twins at Royals

The bottom feeders in the American League Central square off Friday as the Minnesota Twins take on the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Minnesota, which owns the worst record in the AL at 38-54, occupies the basement in the division as it trails the Chicago White Sox by 12 games. Kansas City has not performed much better, going 39-52 to sit 10 1/2 games behind Chicago.

The Twins, who have lost nine of their last 12 games overall, are coming off a 2-5 homestand. They haven't fared well on the road of late, either, dropping four of their last five away from Target Field. But they are facing a team in the Royals which has the worst home record in baseball at 16-28. Kansas City is 2-5 on its 10-game homestand and has lost 10 of 13 overall.
