Giants at Reds

Cincinnati snapped out of its offensive funk in the series opener despite facing one of the hottest pitchers in the majors, and the Reds will look to continue their offensive outburst against resurgent left-hander Barry Zito.

The Reds matched a season-high with nine runs in the opener, as Brandon Phillips and Ryan Ludwick hit home runs against Matt Cain and Jay Bruce and Scott Rolen added consecutive two-run doubles in a six-run eighth.

The Giants have lost six straight and 11 of 15 at Great American Ball Park.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Barry Zito (1-0, 1.71 ERA) vs. Reds RH Bronson Arroyo (1-0, 2.91 ERA)

The Giants have won all three of Zito's starts this season, though he hasn't earned a win of his own since tossing a four-hit shutout in his season debut. Zito allowed two runs over five innings Friday against the Mets, giving up a pair of home runs. Zito is 3-4 with a 7.47 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) against the Reds.

Arroyo has posted consecutive quality starts after holding the Cardinals to three runs over eight innings to earn his first win of the season. He has allowed only three runs and eight hits over 15 1/3 innings in his past two starts. Arroyo is 3-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) against the Giants.

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval has hit safely in all 17 games this season, the longest active hitting streak in the National League. His ninth-inning single Tuesday snapped Willie Mays' record for the longest streak to start a season in Giants history.

2. Giants utility man Aubrey Huff has missed three games over the past two days while attending to what manager Bruce Bochy called "an urgent family matter." Huff is 12-for-23 against Arroyo.

3. Phillips is beginning to heat up with six RBIs in his past three games after going without one in his first eight games. He is 7-for-15 with three doubles against Zito.
