Rockies at Brewers

After playing three one-run games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Milwaukee Brewers continue their nine-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies. Milwaukee won the first two games against Los Angeles in its final at-bat before dropping a 4-3 setback on Thursday. The Brewers won six of their last nine games against Colorado last year to capture the season series for the first time in five years.

The Rockies are off to an unusual start, but they’re still 6-6 after taking two of three games in San Diego. Jonathan Herrera belted his first home run in the series finale, giving him one more than Carlos Gonzalez, who is batting .250 with just four RBIs. In another unexpected twist, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki already has six errors, matching his total from all of last season. Tulowitzki is batting .244, and he was 8-for-32 during the Rockies’ nine-game homestand.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jhoulys Chacin (0-1, 5.63 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Shaun Marcum (1-1, 3.46 ERA)

Chacin held Arizona to one run on four hits over four innings Saturday before his start was cut short by rain. Aramis Ramirez is 5-for-9 with three extra-base hits against Chacin, who walked five batters over four innings in his first start against San Francisco.

Marcum has made two quality starts to open the season, including last Saturday’s outing at Atlanta when he gave up two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings. Marcum is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA in four career games (three starts) against the Rockies.

WALK-OFFS:

1. Michael Cuddyer was removed from Wednesday’s game with a bruised left toe, but he’s expected to be available Friday.

2. Brewers reliever Kameron Loe will miss three games beginning Saturday in order to attend his grandfather’s funeral.

3. Milwaukee has won 47 straight games when taking the lead into the eighth inning.
