Diamondbacks at Mets

After using his bat to position the New York Mets toward a victory in the series opener, Matt Harvey will look to his talented arm to claim the third contest of the four-game set against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Harvey served as a pinch hitter on Monday, moving the runners over before rookie Andrew Brown belted a two-run single in the 13th inning of New York's 5-4 triumph. The Mets followed that performance with a seven-run seventh inning on Tuesday to breeze to their 11th win in 17 outings.

Arizona is singing quite a different tune as it has dropped five in a row and eight of nine. The Diamondbacks have benefited from the sluggish returns from some of their National League West rivals to cling to a 1 1/2-game lead in the division. Martin Prado provided his team's offense Tuesday with his seventh homer of the season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Randall Delgado (0-2, 4.05 ERA) vs. Mets RH Matt Harvey (7-1, 2.00)

Delgado suffered his second consecutive setback despite yielding just two runs in six innings against Atlanta on Friday. The 23-year-old Panama native permitted a total of three home runs and four walks in those contests. Delgado pitched well in his lone career outing versus the Mets, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win.

A lack of run support once again cost Harvey a victory in his last outing. The Connecticut native allowed one run on three hits and struck out 11 over seven masterful innings but settled for a no-decision against Washington on Friday. Harvey dominated the Diamondbacks in his major-league debut last season, striking out 11 while scattering three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless frames to pick up the win.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York 1B Josh Satin continued his stellar play with a go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning that extended his career-best hitting streak to eight games.

2. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has struck out in all three of his career at-bats versus Harvey.

3. The Mets called up RHP Gonzalez Germen from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned INF Zach Lutz to the minors.
