Padres at Giants
The San Francisco Giants look to remain perfect against the San Diego Padres this season when the National League West rivals meet at AT&T Park on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game series. San Francisco is on the verge of sweeping its third three-game series against San Diego this season after posting an 8-2 victory Tuesday.
Brandon Crawford recorded his fourth two-hit performance in eight games, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs as the Giants won for the 13th time in 14 contests. Jon Jay homered and Matt Kemp recorded two hits for San Diego, which has lost seven of its last nine games overall and four of five on the road. Kemp is 3-for-8 over the first two games if the series after going 1-for-28 in his previous seven contests. The Padres, who have scored fewer than three runs in six of their eight losses to the Giants, were without Wil Myers on Tuesday as the first baseman nurses a forearm injury.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH James Shields (2-6, 3.07 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jake Peavy (1-5, 8.21)
Shields was saddled with his second loss in as many starts against San Francisco this season despite allowing three runs — two earned — in 6 2/3 innings on Thursday. The 34-year-old Californian is 2-3 with a 2.56 ERA in six career outings versus the Giants, including a setback at San Francisco on April 26 in which he yielded just one run and three hits over seven frames. Shields has worked at least six innings in each of his nine turns this year and allowed two earned runs or fewer on five occasions.
Peavy lost his fourth consecutive decision Friday when he surrendered five runs on seven hits and two walks in only 1 2/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old native of Alabama is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation, as he has yielded four or more runs in six of his nine outings this season. Peavy has pitched well against San Diego — his team for eight seasons (2002-09) — during his career, going 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in four starts.
