Brewers at Padres

Eric Sogard recently returned to the majors for the first time since 2015 and looks intent on avoiding a trip back to the minor leagues. Sogard is 5-for-8 with a home run over the first two games of the series and looks to help the Milwaukee Brewers take the three-game set from the host San Diego Padres on Wednesday.

Sogard recorded his first career four-hit performance - two doubles - as Milwaukee notched a 6-2 win over the Padres on Tuesday. "I'm seeing the ball well. I'm comfortable up there," he said in a postgame television interview after improving to 6-for-10 with two homers in four games with the Brewers. "I'm trying to get my pitch and put a good swing on it, and I've been getting some knocks lately." The Brewers have won seven of their last nine games while San Diego has dropped 10 of its last 13 despite rallying to win Monday's opener. Wil Myers has homered in four of the last seven games for the Padres after going deep on Tuesday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (2-0, 2.66 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jhoulys Chacin (4-3, 5.12)

Garza defeated the New York Mets in his last turn, when he allowed two runs and five hits over six innings. The 33-year-old was even better in his previous outing as he gave up one run over seven frames in a no-decision against Pittsburgh. Garza is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four career starts versus San Diego and won his lone start at Petco Park in 2011, when he gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings while with the Chicago Cubs.

Chacin is 2-0 over his last three turns, including a victory over the Chicago White Sox last time out in which he allowed three runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old has been superb at home, posting a 2-0 record, 0.45 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in three starts at Petco Park compared to being 2-3 with an 8.77 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in five road outings. Chacin is 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in five career starts against the Brewers.

3. Milwaukee 1B Jesus Aguilar is 5-for-9 with a homer, triple and double in the series while filling in for Thames.
