White Sox 7, Orioles 5

Gordon Beckham's three-run homer off Jeremy Guthrie broke a seventh-inning tie, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 7-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

A.J. Pierzynski led off the seventh with a single and took third on Mark Teahen's one-out double. Beckham followed with his home run to center, his ninth of the season to break a 2-2 tie. Paul Konerko added an RBI single later in the inning.

The victory moved Chicago within 3 1/2 games of Minnesota in the American League Central. The Twins dropped a 4-3 decision in Texas.

Gavin Floyd (9-10) allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

The Orioles scored three in the ninth, but Bobby Jenks came in and retired three straight Orioles hitter to record his 24th save.

Both of Baltimore’s early runs came in the fourth. Luke Scott led off the inning with his 25th home run. The rally continued when Adam Jones was hit by a pitch and took third on Felix Pie's single. Matt Wieters' fielder's choice groundout made it 2-0.

The White Sox also scored in the fourth when Carlos Quentin hit into a double play but scored Alex Rios.

Juan Pierre's sacrifice fly in the fifth tied the game. Pierre had three hits in the game and added an RBI single in the eighth.

Guthrie (7-13) allowed six runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.
