Red Sox 8, Yankees 4

Jed Lowrie and J.D. Drew hit two-run homers to lift the Boston Red Sox to an 8-4 win over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park Sunday.

With the loss on final day of the regular season, New York finished in second place in the AL East a game behind Tampa Bay. The Yankees open the playoffs at Minnesota.

John Lackey (14-11) got the win. He struck out a season-high 10 and allowed six hits and three runs in 7 2/3 innings.

Drew gave Boston a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the first inning. New York tied the game on a solo homer by Nick Swisher in the second and an RBI single by Alex Rodriguez in the third.

Boston reclaimed the lead 4-2 on Lowrie's eighth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth.

The Red Sox broke it open with three runs in the sixth. Ryan Kalish had an RBI single in the frame and later stole home on the back end of a double steal.

Dustin Moseley (4-4) made the start and took the loss for New York. He surrendered four runs in five innings.

Boston won the final two games of the three-game series.
