Tigers 4, White Sox 8

Gordon Beckham's three-run homer capped a four-run fifth inning as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-4 Friday night.

Beckham, who has struggled for most of the season, sent a Jeremy Bonderman offering into the right-field seats to put the White Sox up 4-0. It was just the seventh homer in 103 games for Beckham, who had 14 home runs in the same number of games during his rookie season in 2009.

Mark Teahen and Alexei Ramirez also went deep for Chicago, which remained one game back of Minnesota atop the American League Central after the Twins defeated Oakland 4-3 earlier Friday. The loss dropped Detroit 10 1/2 games back of the Twins.

Mark Buehrle (11-9) earned the victory for the White Sox, scattering three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. Bonderman (6-8) was saddled with the loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits over his six innings of work.

Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn had homers in defeat for the Tigers, who dropped to 4-12 against Chicago so far this season.
