White Sox 5, Tigers 4
A.J. Pierzynski singled in the go-ahead run and Manny Ramirez added three hits as the Chicago White Sox came from behind to earn a 5-4 win in 10 innings over the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
Alexei Ramirez singled in the tying run in the eighth and Juan Pierre chipped in an RBI for the White Sox, who briefly pulled to within three games of the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. The Twins play at Kansas City later Monday.
With Chicago trailing 4-3 in the eighth, Andruw Jones singled with one out off Tigers reliever Max Scherzer. Ryan Perry came on and got Pierzynski to fly out before Ramirez singled in pinch runner Brent Lillibridge with the tying run.
Ramirez got the rally started in the 10th, singling off Detroit closer Jose Valverde (2-4) and moving to second on an error. Valverde struck out Mark Teahen before allowing back-to-back singles to Alex Rios and Pierzynski to push across the run.
Chris Sale (1-1) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win for Chicago.
