Royals 1, Angels 3
Dan Haren pitched seven solid innings for his first victory with Los Angeles and Bobby Abreu reached base four times as the host Angels downed the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Haren gave up one run and five hits in winning for the first time in four starts with the Angeles. Haren (1-2) struck out three and walked one.
Brian Fuentes pitched a perfect ninth for his 23rd save.
Abreu went 2-for-2 with two walks and scored in both the first and fifth innings.
Hideki Matsui drove in Abreu in the first with a sacrifice fly. Abreu also scored on Erick Aybar’s fifth-inning triple for the Angels’ final run.
Howie Kendrick scored the Angels’ second run on an infield tapper in front of the plate by Peter Bourjos in the fifth. Kendrick joined Abreu in having two hits for the Angels, who had seven overall.
Kansas City’s run scored in the second on Alex Gordon’s sacrifice fly.
Royals starter Bryan Bullington pitched well in his first major-league start since 2008. Bullington (0-2) gave up three runs and five hits in six innings.
