Yankees 3, Royals 4
Billy Butler snapped a tie with a home run and Kyle Davies remained perfect against New York as the Kansas City Royals halted a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.
Yuniesky Betancourt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Gregor Blanco stole three bases for Kansas City in a game that was delayed by rain twice for a total of more 2 1/2 hours.
Each of New York's last five games have been decided by one run, with the Yankees losing three of them.
After the Royals squandered a three-run advantage, Butler hit a 2-1 offering from Yankees starter Dustin Moseley off the foul pole in right field with one out for his 11th homer of the season and a 4-3 edge.
Kansas City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning against Moseley. Following a one-out single and a walk, Betancourt delivered a two-run double before scoring two batters later on Jason Kendall's sacrifice fly.
The Yankees answered quickly, scoring three runs in the top of the third to tie it. Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back RBI singles and Lance Berkman plated a run with a double later in the frame.
Davies (6-7) improved to 3-0 lifetime against New York, surrendering three runs and seven hits in five innings. The right-hander, who walked two and struck out four, won for just the second time in his last 13 starts, with both victories coming vs. the Yankees.
Jesse Chavez and Blake Wood bridged the cap to Joakim Soria, who worked around two hits in the ninth for his 25th consecutive save and 32nd in 34 chances this season.
Moseley (2-2) did not return after the second rain delay, allowing four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 frames.
