Yankees 0, Royals 1
Bryan Bullington outdueled A.J. Burnett for his first career win as the Kansas City Royals earned a split of a four-game series with a 1-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.
Billy Butler drove in the lone run in the first inning for the Royals, who have dropped six of eight but managed to stay out of sole possession of last place in the American League Central with the win.
Bullington (1-2) allowed two hits and walked one while striking out five in a career-high eight innings. The first overall pick in the 2002 draft, Bullington has struggled to establish himself in the majors with four different organizations after a series of setbacks in the minors.
Burnett (9-10) was nearly as sharp, allowing a run on two hits in the first but just two hits the rest of the way in the complete game effort. The right-hander struck out six and walked three.
Joakim Soria worked the ninth for his 33rd save.
