Twins 7, Angels 2

Jason Kubel hit a three-run homer and Brian Duensing hurled eight standout innings as the Minnesota Twins defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels 7-2 on Friday night.

J.J. Hardy doubled and Joe Mauer was walked intentionally before Kubel’s third-inning blast to right field gave Minnesota an early 4-0 lead.

Duensing (7-1) gave up one run and seven hits and improved to 4-0 as a starter since moving into the rotation last month.

Duensing struck out six and walked one. The Angels had just one flyball out against Duensing.

The Angels’ lone run against Duensing came across when Torii Hunter bounced into a fourth-inning double play. Los Angeles also tallied in the ninth on an infield groundout against Matt Guerrier.

The Twins pulled away with three runs in the fourth inning. Delmon Young had a run-scoring single, J.J. Hardy hit a sacrifice fly, and Orlando Hudson had an RBI single.

Angels starter Dan Haren (1-4) gave up seven runs and 11 hits in seven innings.
