Rays 4, Angels 3 (10)

Brandon Wood's throwing error allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays rallied for a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.

A day after his solo home run gave the Angels a 3-2 in in the series opener, Wood wore the goat horns.

The Rays loaded the bases with two out in the 10th for Willy Aybar, who came on to hit for Desmond Jennings. Aybar hit the ball to Wood, whose throw was off-target and allowed Jason Bartlett to cross the plate for the victory.

The win allowed Tampa Bay to keep pace with New York in the American League East race. The Yankees remain a half-game up on the Rays after walloping the Baltimore Orioles 11-3.

Tampa forced extra innings Saturday on a two-out RBI single by Carlos Pena off Angels closer Fernando Rodney.

Rafael Soriano (3-2) earned the victory with an inning of scoreless relief, while Bobby Cassevah (0-2) took the loss.

Joel Pineiro was solid in his first start since returning from a seven-week stint on the disabled list. Pineiro allowed two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out four and not walking a batter.

Tampa Bay counterpart David Price surrendered three runs on four hits in his seven-inning stint, walking two and striking out five.

Reid Brignac hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Tampa, while Juan Rivera put the Angels ahead with a three-run shot in the seventh.
