Joe Mauer had three hits and drove in two runs and Scott Baker pitched 6 2/3 effective innings as the Minnesota Twins earned a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
Baker (12-9) allowed two runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He had
four strikeouts and two walks in winning his fifth consecutive
decision.
Mauer had an RBI single and RBI double for the Twins, who maintained their 3 1/2-game lead over the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.
Danny Valencia hit a two-run triple in the sixth and scored on Alexi Casilla's single.
Seattle starter Jason Vargas (9-7) allowed five runs - four earned - on nine hits in six innings.
The Mariners had the bases loaded in the eighth inning but couldn't cut into the Minnesota lead.
Chone Figgins had an RBI single and a run-scoring groundout, and Josh Wilson also drove in a run for the Mariners.
