Mariners 2, Rangers 1

Felix Hernandez took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and Chone Figgins drove in the winning run as the Seattle Mariners earned a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.

Hernandez (12-11) walked Elvis Andrus, the first batter of the game, before retiring 21 in a row.

Nelson Cruz led off the eighth with his 20th homer on a 1-0 pitch to left-center, ending the no-hit bid. Hernandez allowed two more singles before getting Andrus to ground out to end the inning.

Hernandez struck out eight and walked one in his eight innings. He has 222 strikeouts, surpassing Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver (218) for the major-league lead. He lowered his American League-leading ERA to 2.35.

Closer David Aardsma threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 30th save.

Franklin Gutierrez scored Seattle's first run on a wild pitch in the second inning.

In the third, Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki singled then stole second and third before Figgins drove him in with a hit to shallow center. Suzuki had two hits and leads the majors with 191.

Texas starter C.J. Wilson (14-7) had an outstanding outing, but still took the loss. The left-hander went eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
