Tampa Bay (93-62) needed a victory and a loss by Boston to the New York Yankees on Sunday night to clinch a playoff berth. The defeat dropped the Rays' lead atop the AL East to one game over the Yankees.
Seattle (59-96) got a three-run homer from Wilson in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie.
Luke French (5-6) earned the victory, allowing two runs on eight hits in five innings. James Shields (13-14) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in six frames.
