Evan Longoria homered and drove in four runs and James Shields tossed seven quality innings to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to an 8-6 win over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.
B.J. Upton homered, scored twice and had a pair of stolen bases and Matt Joyce had a pair of RBIs as Tampa Bay swept the three-game set.
Shields (11-11) allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits while striking out six. Four relievers bridged the gap to Rafael Soriano, who got the final two outs for his 35th save.
Tampa Bay never trailed after getting an RBI double from Longoria in the first and a solo shot - his 16th - from the slugger in the fourth.
Texas starter Derek Holland (2-2) was tagged for five runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Taylor Teagarden hit a home run and Mitch Moreland’s two-run shot in the ninth forced the Rays to bring in Soriano to close things down.
