Diamondbacks 7, Dodgers 5
Adam LaRoche homered and had three RBIs to pace the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-5 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
LaRoche had a run-scoring double in Arizona’s three-run third inning and smashed a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Diamondbacks a 7-1 lead.
Rookie left-hander Zach Kroenke (1-0) allowed one run and two hits in five innings to win his first major-league start. Juan Gutierrez retired the side in the ninth for his 15th save.
Chris Young doubled in a run in the Arizona first and scored on Kelly Johnson’s single. Mark Reynolds followed LaRoche’s third-inning double with an RBI-single and Brandon Allen added a sacrifice fly to give the Diamondbacks a 5-0 advantage.
The Dodgers got on the board on Matt Kemp’s fourth-inning homer. Kemp also had an RBI when he was hit by a pitch in Los Angeles’ three-run sixth.
James Loney followed with a run-scoring single and Rod Barajas hit a sacrifice fly.
Dodgers starter John Ely (4-10) gave up seven runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
