Cubs 5, Braves 4

Aramis Ramirez and rookie Tyler Colvin belted a pair of run-scoring singles and Tom Gorzelanny collected his first victory in nearly one month as the Chicago Cubs held on for a 5-4 triumph over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.

Blake DeWitt also had an RBI single as Chicago (51-73) took advantage of three errors to build a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Atlanta made a spirited charge - highlighted by a three-run eighth inning - but the Cubs held on to snap their five-game losing streak. The victory also ended an eight-game skid at Wrigley Field.

The offensive onslaught was enough for Gorzelanny (7-7), who posted his first victory since July 24. The 28-year-old left-hander allowed one run and seven hits while striking out nine in seven innings.

Carlos Marmol redeemed himself after failing to close Friday's encounter by retiring the side in the ninth inning on Saturday for his 22nd save of the season.

Brooks Conrad belted a two-run double and Alex Gonzalez added an double of his own for Atlanta (72-51), which saw its lead in the NL East reduced to two games over Philadelphia (69-52). The Phillies face the Washington Nationals later on Saturday night.

Tommy Hanson (8-9) struggled right out of the gate in this one. The 23-year-old Oklahoma native permitted five runs, seven hits and four walks in five innings to take the loss.
