Cubs 4, Brewers 0
Carlos Zambrano continued his late-season surge by three-hitting the Milwaukee Brewers over 8 2/3 innings to help the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 win on Friday.
Zambrano, who struck out nine while walking three, is now 5-0 over his last six starts since Aug. 9 after spending time in the bullpen and on the sidelines on suspended following a blowup in the dugout earlier this summer.
The right-hander improved to 8-6 on the year and closer Carlos Marmol came on, throwing one pitch to get the final out in the ninth to earn his 29th save of the year.
Zambrano also added three hits, an RBI and a run scored at the dish to help his cause. Cubs third baseman Darwin Barney had two hits and two runs scored.
Milwaukee’s Dave Bush (7-12) allowed only one earned run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. He struck out six but walked four.
