Cubs 1, Brewers 0
The Chicago Cubs got seven innings of shutout ball from Ryan Dempster on their way to dropping the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Saturday night.
Dempster has had control problems lately, allowing seven walks over his last 7 2/3 innings pitched, but he gave up just three hits while striking out eight and walking just two against the Brewers. Dempster (13-10) threw 105 pitches, 69 of which were strikes.
Xavier Nady gave Dempster all the offense he needed when he cracked a solo shot in the seventh inning off Milwaukee starter Randy Wolf (11-11). It was Nady’s seventh home run of the season. Third baseman Jeff Baker also had two hits for Chicago.
Wolf had a great outing outside of that one blemish. He gave up the one run on four hits while striking out six and walking one over seven full innings.
Chicago's Carlos Marmol worked the ninth inning to pick up his 30th save of the year.
Milwaukee was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men stranded on base.
