Cubs 2, Marlins 0

The Chicago Cubs got seven scoreless innings of four-hit ball from starter Ryan Dempster to down the Florida Marlins 2-0 on Friday.

Dempster (14-10) struck out five and walked three on 123 pitches to pick up his sixth win in his last nine starts.

Carlos Marmol came on to work the ninth inning, earning up his 32nd save of the season.

Chicago got RBI doubles from Alfonso Soriano in the second inning and one from Geovany Soto in the sixth. Xavier Nady finished with two hits and scored a run.

Florida starter Alex Sanabia (4-3) took the loss, allowing the two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings in his first career start against the Cubs. He struck out three and walked three.

The Marlins couldn’t get the big hit when it counted. They had two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, but Sean Marshall got out of the jam. No Marlin had more than a single hit and they were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
