Carlos Gonzalez belted a three-run homer and Jhoulys Chacin tossed six strong innings as the Colorado Rockies recorded a 4-3 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.
A Triple Crown contender, Gonzalez has ridden his current 15-game hitting streak to a National League-best .340 batting average and 100 RBIs. The 24-year-old Venezuelan also has 32 home runs on the season.
Miguel Olivo added an RBI double for Colorado (74-64), which claimed its 12th win in 16 games.
Chacin (8-9) allowed two runs and six hits to pick up the win. The 22-year-old right-hander also struck out five and only walked one in this contest.
Matt Belisle worked a scoreless seventh inning and Rafael Betancourt permitted a solo homer to Jonny Gomes in the eighth. Huston Street retired the side in the ninth for his 16th save of the season.
Drew Stubbs slapped a two-run single and Orlando Cabrera also had two hits for NL Central-leading Cincinnati (79-59), which fell for the fourth time in five games.
Johnny Cueto (12-5) permitted four runs and seven hits in six innings to take the loss.
