Reds 5, Pirates 4
Triple-Crown threat Joey Votto hit a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park Saturday night.
Reds’ starter Edinson Volquez dominated the contest for seven innings. He struck out 10 and allowed just a single by Jose Tabata in the first inning and one walk.
He also left with a 3-0 lead but the Reds’ bullpen blew it.
Pittsburgh had four hits in the eighth inning and scored four times to take a 4-3 lead.
John Bowker drove in the first run and Tabata followed with an RBI single off Nick Masset.With two outs Cincinnati turned to Aroldis Chapman but Walker greeted the Reds rookie with a two-run single.
Francisco Cordero (6-4) picked up the win by tossing a perfect top of the 10th inning, while Justin Thomas (0-1) suffered the loss.
Cincinnati tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Chris Heisey.
The Reds scored their first three runs of the game on sacrifice flies. Dana Stubbs scored Scott Rolen in the second inning on his sacrifice fly.
Cincinnati made 3-0 in the seventh on sacrifice flies by Ramon Hernandez and Miguel Cairo.
